Sundance Championships Meet Info

posted Jul 17, 2013, 8:11 AM by David Baur   [ updated Jul 17, 2013, 8:11 AM ]

Hi All,
Volunteers for Sundance on Saturday, July 20 are as follows:

A.M. Timers: Joann Clemens, Maile or David Ruggles
P.M. Timers: Steve Clarke, OPEN
P.M. Time Card Runner: Lynette Wickstrom
P.M. Marshall: OPEN
Communication: David Baur

As always, we need these positions filled immediately. The organizers of this event will understandably be in freak-out mode shortly if I don't supply them with all of our volunteers!

Timers: The morning session (first half) is much longer because both relays are included. All timers need to attend the timers meeting where stop watches will be provided.

ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST SIGN IN. Morning volunteers (first half) must sign in at 8:00 a.m. Afternoon volunteers (second half) must sign in after the Free Relay. (Remember that only at the Sundance Finals, the Free Relay is immediately after Back Stroke, in the middle of the meet. This allows swimmers who are only there to swim relays to go home when they are finished.)

Be watching for an email announcing arrival times, warm-up times, and meet start time.

Saturday Night, July 20 - HIGH POINT PARTY
The High Point Party is a Gator tradition where the swimmer who earns the most individual points at the Sundance Championship "invites" all of the qualifiers/relay swimmers over to their house for a celebration following the meet. Typically, the host provides the home and one main dish, and the rest of the qualifiers/families bring sides and desserts. We won't know for sure who the High Point person is until after the meet, so if you think your swimmer has a chance, you may want to go ahead and vacuum on Friday night :) Details to come as the events unfold...

See you soon! Go Gators!

District Meet Info

posted Jul 17, 2013, 8:10 AM by David Baur   [ updated Jul 17, 2013, 8:10 AM ]

Hi Guys,
A few reminders for tomorrow:

7:00 - 7:30: MANDATORY TEAM WARM-UP AT FHCC
8:10-8:30: WARM-UP AT ACC (checking starts and turns)
9:00 a.m.: Meet begins

Volunteers are:
First Half Timers - Karen Truelock, Wes Baca, Joann Clemens, Annette Hashimoto, Gary Evans, OPEN
Second Half Timers - Wes Baca, Dan Rowe, Lori Montgomery, OPEN, OPEN, OPEN

First Half Hospitality - Shannon Rowe

First Half Lane Monitors - Maile Ruggles, Christina O'Connell
Second Half Lane Monitors - Julie Baur

Starter - Brenda McCallon

The list is just almost full - I need to fill those last 4 timer vacancies. Please let me know TODAY if you can help, or if you can time the whole meet. There will be volunteers making sure that you have water and snacks if you need them.

Remember that you may not park in the member parking area at ACC. Please park on the street. The address is 601 Laguna Blvd SW.

Sundance t-shirts will be for sale at the meet tomorrow, although I'm not sure of the price. I have been advised not to wait to buy one on Saturday at Sundance, because they may be out of your size already. The shirts are fun this year, so bring cash if you want one.

Also, remember that Friday, July 19, practice will be from 8:30-9:00 a.m., and will only be for swimmers who qualified for Sundance in an individual event, or are swimming on a relay.

Qualification explanation: Results will be posted at the district meet as they are entered into the computer system and printed. The top 3 finishers in each individual event automatically advance to the Sundance Championships on Saturday, July 20 at West Mesa Aquatic Center. Additionally, those swimmers who don't finish in the top 3 in an individual event, but have one of the next 4 fastest times across the league will also advance. We will not know who qualified on the "bubble" until after the coaches meet on Thursday evening. If a swimmer qualifies on the bubble, he/she will be notified by Coach Hannah by PHONE on Thursday night.

Relays: Each team provides 1 girls relay and 1 boys relay from each age group to compete at the Sundance Championships. Even if you do not qualify for Sundance in an individual event, Coach Hannah may need you to swim on a relay. Relays will be determined solely upon which FHCC swimmers have the fastest times. Those needed for relays will also be contacted by Coach Hannah by PHONE on Thursday night.

See you tomorrow! Good luck, Gators!

In all these years, I have NEVER been to a meet at ACC, so I don't know what to tell you in terms of space. I think it is all concrete, so bring your own shade, drinks, etc. I will try to find out some more details for you in the next couple of days. I DO know that parking is NOT ALLOWED in the member parking lot, so you MUST park on the street.

Friday, July 19
8:30 - 9:30 a.m.: Practice for Sundance qualifiers and relays ONLY

Saturday, July 20 - SUNDANCE CHAMPIONSHIP MEET, West Mesa Aquatic Center
Report time: TBA
Warm-up time: TBA
Start time: TBA

Our set-up area will be where it's always been, at the northwest corner of the grass behind the indoor facility. Bring plenty of shade, chairs, food, and drinks. This year, there will be food vendors (Chick-Fil-A is one that I recall for sure), so bring some cash if you want to partake. WMAC will NOT be open to the public on this day. Folding chairs and coolers are not allowed inside on the bleachers - there's just not enough space. Typically, we pitch our "camp" outside, and go inside to watch races. This is not like a regular season meet, in that parents are not allowed to walk kids to races. Coaches will help get kids where they need to be at the right time, and older kids should just know :) Remember that the free relay is in the MIDDLE of the meet, not at the end at Sundance.

More details to come later in the week.

Highpoint Party: TBA (this will be last minute, as always, so watch your email!)

Tuesday, July 23 - Awards Banquet
"Swimming Through the Decades"
See email from Brenda McCallon, and PLEASE RSVP in a timely manner. This event is always so much fun. And made more fun this year by the costumes that Monica and I already have planned :)

Finally, each year a Sundance team is awarded the Peter B. Barney Sportsmanship Award at the conclusion of the Championship meet. This award is voted upon by each team in the league. This past Thursday at the Sundance meeting, Four Hills was in a run-off with two other teams to receive this award! Even if we don't end up winning it, it is a great honor to be perceived in this way by our fellow Sundance League teams. I am proud of our swimmers and our parents for conducting ourselves in such a way as to make this kind of impression throughout the league. It's good to be a Gator!

District Volunters

posted Jul 8, 2013, 7:30 AM by David Baur   [ updated Jul 8, 2013, 7:30 AM ]

Hi Team,
As you know, our district meet is Thursday, July 18 at Albuquerque Country Club. This is our biggest meet of the season, in that the top 3 finishers from each race (NOT each heat) qualify to swim at the Sundance Championships on Saturday, July 20 at West Mesa Aquatic Center. There are 4 teams in each district. Our district meet will consist of our team, ACC, JCC, and Midtown. FHCC hosted the district meet last year, and it is a huge organizational effort, as is the Championship meet. For both meets, each team has certain responsibilities, and ours are as follows:

District Volunteers Needed:
Timers: 12 (6 per half, 3 timers per lane, lanes 2 and 3)
Lane Monitors: 2 (using heat sheets, make sure that the right swimmers are swimming in the right events, heats, lanes, etc.)
Hospitality, First Half: 1 (help to make sure that coaches, timers, etc. have water/snacks)
Data Entry: Lynette Wickstrom and Julie Baur
Starter: Brenda McCallon

Let me know ASAP if you are available to help out. These spots must be filled, and not at the last minute. Four Hills has a more prominent role in volunteering at this meet than a visiting team typically has for a couple of reasons. 1) ACC has a brand new coach and not a very active parent contingent 2) We've done it before and we rocked it. Thanks in advance for helping!

Sundance Volunteers Needed:
2 all-day timers (or 4 half-day)
1 time card runner (PM)
1 PM marshall (responsible for crowd control, keeping walkways clear, etc.)
COMMUNICATION: David Baur

YOUR DEADLINE TO SUBMIT YOUR NAME AND CONTACT INFORMATION TO ME IS FRIDAY, JULY 12.

Thanks!
Molly

Make-up Pictures

posted Jul 4, 2013, 1:47 AM by David Baur   [ updated Jul 4, 2013, 1:47 AM ]

Hi Everyone,
Make-up pictures are scheduled for Thursday, July 11, at 6:00 p.m. at the FHCC pool.  We have a meet that day, so there will likely be no stroke and turn that evening, only make-up pictures.

Please let me know if you plan to attend, so I can let the photographer know.  In the past, people have committed to make-up pictures and then not shown up for them.  Our photographer makes a special trip to Four Hills to accommodate our swimmers, so please respect his time.

It's the time of the season that lots of emails are going to start coming from me regarding district meet responsibilities, Sundance responsibilities, and BANQUET.  (BTW, we still need someone to spear-head the banquet - come on guys!)  I will apologize in advance for filling up your inbox, but please read and respond.

Enjoy your Fourth of July - see you Friday
Molly

Week of July 1st

posted Jul 1, 2013, 10:45 AM by David Baur   [ updated Jul 1, 2013, 10:45 AM ]

Hi All,
First, congratulations to our 8 and Under swimmers for a fantastic meet this past Saturday! You guys were awesome! And thanks to the parents, and many older brothers and sisters who came, WORKED, and cheered for our little people. Good job!

*I have a safety yellow t-shirt from the 13-14 age group. If you are missing your shirt, find me tomorrow!
*Since we have a weird week, TUESDAY is the last day to sign up for Friday breakfast burritos.

Monday, July 1
7:30 - 11 and up practice
8:30 - 10 and under warm-up
9:00 - 10 and under practice
10:00 - PRE-TEAM CANCELLED (rescheduled for Tuesday, 7/2)
11:00 - STROKE AND TURN CANCELLED
10:30 - MONSTERS UNIVERSITY, Highridge Theatre, Indian School and Tramway
Tomorrow is our movie day with the Highpoint Sharks! If you RSVP'd and paid last week, try to get to the theater as close to 10:00 a.m. as you can be there. For kids at the 9:00 practice,I bet Coach Hannah will let you get out of practice a few minutes early to get dry, dressed, and to the theater. On Mondays, candy is $2.00! Be sure and thank a Shark tomorrow!

Tuesday, July 2 - FOURTH OF JULY PLAY DAY!! (Last day to sign up for Friday burritos, and for tomorrow's swim meet!)
7:30 - 11 and up
9:00 - 10 and under
10:00 - Pre-Team Make-up session

Wednesday, July 3 - NO PRACTICE
FHCC AND MIDTOWN @ TANOAN
Report time: 6:45 a.m.
Warm-up time: 7:00 a.m.
Meet starts: 7:45 a.m.

Since this meet is with two other teams, space will be a little more crowded than the first time we were at Tanoan. Bring chairs and shade, food and drinks. It's possible that their grill will be serving breakfast burritos like last time, but I don't know that for sure. Remember that Midtown is in our district, so it will be great to have the chance to swim against them a couple of times in preparation for our district meet. (Our district is FHCC, JCC, ACC, and Midtown.)

I need 4 timers for Wednesday's meet. We have 2 lanes, so we need two timers per half. Sign up at the pool or email me to help out!

Thursday, July 4 - NO PRACTICE OR STROKE AND TURN! HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!

Friday, July 5
7:30 - 11 and up practice
8:30 - 10 and under warm-up
9:00 - 10 and under practice
10:00 - Pre-Team practice

We don't have another meet until Thursday, 7/11. Even though we have a relatively easy, fun week ahead, remember that we only have TWO MORE MEETS between now and District. Keep working hard at practice - now is not the time to let up!

Go Gators!

Week of June 24th

posted Jun 26, 2013, 3:50 AM by David Baur   [ updated Jun 26, 2013, 3:50 AM ]

Hi Everyone,
I hope you enjoyed your weekend!  Get ready for a fun,  busy week.

First, a few housekeeping items:
1. Meet results are posted on the Gator website, www.fhccgators.com.
2. To clear up some confusion...When reading results, the time the swimmer earned in the event is to the left of their name. If you follow across, the "Improv" column indicates whether they added or took away time from their last recorded time in that event. If the "Improv" time is a positive number, that means your swimmer swam slower (added time) than the last time they swam that race. If that number is negative, it means they swam faster (took off time) than the last time they swam that race.
3. If anyone has a good picture of the 9-10 age-group from this past Friday (the purple shirts), please forward it to Barbie Burns, bburns60@comcast.net.
4. You will have an opportunity to make up individual pictures. As soon as that date is determined I will let you know.
5. Deadline to sign up for Wednesday's meet against Chamisa Hills is TUESDAY, JUNE 25.
6. Attached is information and registration forms for Albuquerque Triton Aquatic Club (ATAC), coached by Quint Seckler, for the 2013-2014 school year. Please note the information if your swimmer is interested in swimming throughout the next school year.

Week of June 17th Update

posted Jun 18, 2013, 6:48 AM by David Baur   [ updated Jun 18, 2013, 6:48 AM ]

Hi Everyone,

1. Don't forget about Pancake Breakfast and team pictures this Friday, June 21, at 7:30 a.m. Pictures will begin at 8:00.

2. NM Games is Sunday, June 30. Since my family never does it, I don't really know the proper registration form. If you register with the Gators, registration closes, this Friday, June 21. If you register "unattached", registration closes on June 24. Can someone who does NM Games respond?

3. As you take pictures of your kids, please send those to Barbie Burns for the end of the year slide show. She's trying to get pictures of every swimmer, but that is sometimes hard to do! Send pictures to bburns60@comcast.net.

4. On Mondays, I've been noticing that the hour between the younger kids practice and stroke and turn has turned a little crazy. Our coaches are having to do a lot of babysitting, which is not their job - they are busy with Pre-Team. Yesterday we were trying to control water fights and chasing on the deck with water guns. I certainly understand the need to leave your kids unattended if you work, so if that is the case, please send them with plenty to do and a snack. The kids could use that hour to rest before they get back in the water.

5. My volunteer sheet for the meet tomorrow is pretty bare!! Wednesday meets are more difficult to fill because it's a work day. So if you're waiting, now is the time! We have to get the positions filled, and it's harder to get them filled on the spot. Please respond to this email or sign up at the pool TODAY!

6. Breakfast burritos and coffee will be available at the meet tomorrow beginning at 7:30. We are not ordering as many this time, and it's first come first serve.

7. Pre-Teamers will swim again tomorrow at half time. If your pre-teamer plans to race, be sure you let Coach Hannah know tomorrow at practice.

Have a great day-
Molly

Week of June 17th

posted Jun 14, 2013, 8:10 PM by David Baur   [ updated Jun 14, 2013, 8:10 PM ]

Hi Team,

To prevent confusion when making relay teams for meets, we will add an "absent" column to the meet sign-up sheets.  If you know you will miss an upcoming meet, please mark the "absent" column so you don't inadvertently get put on a relay team.  This is generally not a big deal for individual events, but it will alleviate any last minute scrambles to make relays.

Here is what next week looks like:

Monday, June 17
7:30 - 11 and up practice
8:30 - 10 and under arrive for warm-up
9:00 - 10 and under practice
10:00 - Pre Team practice (NO SWIM TEAM KIDS IN THE WATER DURING PRE-TEAM PRACTICE/SWIM LESSONS)
11:00 - Stroke and Turn (all swimmers except pre-team)
6:00 - 8:00 p.m. - TEAM PICNIC AND FREE SWIM (Bring dinner to the pool for your family!  Remember that the club will be closed.)

Tuesday, June 18
7:30 - 11 and up practice
8:30 - 10 and under arrive for warm-up
9:00 - 10 and under practice

Wednesday, June 19  - DOLPHINS @ FHCC
Report Time - 7:00-7:10 a.m.
Warm-up Time - 7:30 a.m.
Meet Starts - 8:00 a.m.
Pre-Team Report Time - 8:30 a.m.

Dolphins always have a good team, so bring your A-game!  Bring food, drinks, and shade.  I'll let you know if breakfast burritos will be available - depends on Saturday's sales.  Since this is a Wednesday meet, volunteers will be harder to come by.  Please respond to this email, or sign up Monday at the pool to volunteer.  Thank you!

As in our other home meets, Pre-Teamers will swim between the first and second half.  As indicated above, Pre-Teamers please report at 8:30.  Thanks in advance to our 15-18 age group for helping out with them, and to all the other swimmers for cheering them on!

Thursday, June 20
7:30 - 11 and up practice
8:30 - 10 and under arrive for warm-up
9:00 - 10 and under practice
6:30 p.m. - Stroke and Turn (all swimmers except pre-team)

Friday, June 21 - PANCAKE BREAKFAST/TEAM PICTURES (NO PRACTICE)
7:30 a.m. - Breakfast begins ($5 per person - please sign up at the pool if you'd like to eat!)
8:00 a.m. - Individual pictures begin (Check your email from Super Gator for order forms, or there will be hard copies at the pool.)
Following - Team Picture

Saturday, June 22 - NO MEET!
Enjoy your weekend.  See you Monday!
